Since then she has completed a number of continuing education courses including Soft Tissue Release and Muscle Energy Techniques.  Kimberly also obtained her Diploma for Massage Therapy at the Ontario College of Health and Technology and is member of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

Kimberly is currently enrolled in the McMaster University’s Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program with the expected completion in December 2011.  She has worked with a variety of sports teams and was the Head Athletic Therapist for Brampton Minor Football Association and is still currently the Head Athletic Therapist of the Brampton Rugby Football Club and the Mississauga Chargers Jr. A Hockey Team.

Community Involvement: Pura Vida Health Centre enjoys volunteering in the community at various festivals and events.  We provide an opportunity to meet our therapists, ask questions, and have a chance for a free assessment or demo treatment.  We can be found around town at events such as the Southside Shuffle, the Dragon Boat festival, and many more.

Kate’s education is not the typical Massage or Natural Healing background one would expect – she holds an Honours BA (Economics/French, U of T) and an MBA (Schulich School of Business) – her route to manual therapy took a different path.
As a competitive athlete in several vigourous sports including soccer and equestrian competition (hunter/jumper), Kate is no stranger to the world of massage and other healing therapies due to the short- and long-term impacts of these activities on the body.  It was through her horse world contacts that Kate learned of Bowen, and it was the Bowen results on her longer-term injuries and pain that encouraged her to learn Bowen so she could share her amazing results with others.   Kate’s original plan was to become a Bowen practitioner on competitive horses, but the profound results she obtained through the training element on people that finalized her decision to stay in this realm.

The strong appeal of Bowen to Kate is that it triggers the body to heal itself, engaging the healing process in a natural way that suits that each individual’s specific needs.  She’s seen dramatic and fantastic results in her clients, with the lessening of or elimination of pain being the most fulfilling aspect of her practice.  To see a client walk out the door with freedom of movement, lessened or no pain and a big smile is her greatest reward.

William has been working as a shiatsu therapist for 12 years.  He added reiki as a treatment modality just over a year ago.  In addition to his clinical experience he draws both on compassion and awareness from his Zen Buddhist and martial arts training in developing appropriate treatment strategies for each patient.

As a therapist, William has worked with patients ranging from children to seniors and from Olympic athletes to people with debilitating conditions such as stroke.  He loves to dispel the myth that shiatsu must be painful to be effective.  He can provide consultation for those wishing to learn about meditation having almost 25 years of experience.

William is currently available at Pura Vida Health Centre every Friday from 8am – 8pm

My career was interspersed with enough overseas travel to end up with a medically ‘indefinable’ illness. This ultimately ended with a visit to a naturopath. The return to health through naturopathy was so simple, yet so profound, that I decided to change careers in order to bring to others a similar experience: such a powerful route back to a balanced state of health and well-being.

Four years completing an undergrad degree at the University of Toronto, followed by 4 inspiring years at CCNM (Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine), and 2 years of part-time studies at the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine contribute to the core of my treatment knowledge. Other techniques or therapies that I have incorporated into practice include Reiki. My practice is diverse in scope, helping to prevent disease and treating a wide range of illnesses: from acute injuries or illness, to asthma, allergies, digestive and bowel problems, mood disorders, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. The beauty of naturopathic medicine is that it focuses on the individual rather than the symptoms, supporting and facilitating the body’s innate ability to heal.

Since starting to practice as a naturopath in 2000, I have had two wonderful children, which has given me a much keener insight into the birth process, infant and child health care, and mum’s health; this I also bring to my practice. In response to an increase in thyroid dysfunction in a growing number of patients, I have been certified as a WTS (Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome) practitioner. More recently, my passion for homeopathy has led me to pursue more in depth studies, and I have completed the Homeopathic Masters Clinician Program from the Luminos School of Homeopathy.

Outside of the clinic, I love being with my children, my partner and our animals, biking, creating fabulous meals, and working in my garden. I’m also an avid learner. I will always be a student as I continue to take courses and learn – not only from experts in their fields, but also from my clients. This makes the work I do so rewarding and exciting.
